Arr.: Achim Graf, Peter WelteJosef Gabriel from 1894 Rheinberger (1839 - 1901) was born in Liechtenstein. At the age of twelve he came to Munich for musical training and worked there as a composer and music pedagogue all his life.
Rheinberger was a successful composer, among others, for choirs. As court conductor of the Bavarian King Ludwig II, he has since 1877 taken a central position within Catholic church music in Germany. As a composition teacher at the Munich Conservatory, he was an internationally renowned performer. Among his pupils were, among others, Engelbert Humperdinck, Joseph Renner junior, Lothar Windsperger, Wilhelm Furtwangler, and others. Rheinberger received numerous awards, including the honorary doctorate of the University of Munich.
