March by Paul Lincke
Arr.: Achim Graf, Peter WeltePaul Lincke (1866-1946) On 7th November 1866, Paul Lincke was born in Berlin and spent his junior years here.
The light music was Lincke's specialty, which he remained faithful to his life. Numerous antics, songs, and several stage works emerged from his work. His operetta "Frau Luna", which has been known to this day, is especially worth mentioning.
Lincke was able to write catchy melodies such as "Folies Bergère" or "Schutzmannsmarsch (Police Parade March)". His most famous masterpiece, however, is and remains his "Berliner Luft," the march which, like the "Donauwalzer" by Johann Strauss in Vienna, is often referred to as the "secret anthem of Berlin".
Paul Lincke has created the counterpart to the Viennese operetta, and has since been spoken of by the Berlin Operetta.
He died on September 3, 1946, in Clausthal-Zellerfeld, where he had retired during the war.
