Arr.: Achim Graf, Peter WelteJohannes Brahms (1833 - 1897) was a German-Austrian composer, pianist and conductor, whose compositions are mainly attributed to romanticism. He is considered one of the most important European composers in the second half of the 19th century.
The "Hungarian Dances No. 1-21," published in 1869-1880, in which Brahms had resorted to gypsies belonging to the common property, brought him many jeers and almost became a scandal. Brahms had a much wider audience with them than with his other works, but other musicians suddenly came to the table (including his old friend Reményi), claiming that they were all unsuccessful.
As a pianist, Brahms was so successful in those years that he was able to support his livelihood even without a permanent job.
The "Hungarian Dance No. 1" is one of the most famous and at the same time the most beautiful of these 21 dances, originally written for piano, with "No. 5". The arrangers Achim Graf and Peter Welte have captured the mood of the traditional gypsies for you with their version for today's wind orchestra and have been recorded with the inclusion of the symphonic version in the present version.
