    Johann Strauss, father (1804 - 1849) he was actually a learned bookbinder. He was drafted as a musician in 1824 to the "Hoch- und Deutschmeister". J. Strauss, father was appointed conductor of the first citizens' regiment in 1832 and the "Hofballmusikdirektor" in 1935. His work includes 152 waltzes, 32 quadrilles, 13 polkas and 18 marches, of which the "Radetzky March" is probably his best known work.

    Even today, this imperishable march belongs to every repertoire of an ambitious wind orchestra.
