  Erik Satie

  The short piano pieces "3 Gymnopédies pour Piano" are probably the best-known piano compositions by the French composer Erik Satie today. The genesis of the historical "Gymnopaedia", an ancient festival, is unknown.
  All three Gymnopédies share the same rhythm, time signature, and similar character ("painful" - "sad" - "heavy"), as well as the same, yet very modern-sounding harmonies.
  The first Gymnopédie (Lent et douloureuxist) is probably the most well-known piece by Erik Satie today. Because it is not very technically demanding, it is also one of the most popular pieces for beginners.

  This edition was created based on the autograph manuscript and the first printed edition.
