Graf Zeppelin March

  • Conzert March by Carl Teike
    ca.: 3:15 Min.
    Grade 3
    Arr.: Achim Graf, Peter Welte

Carl Teike (1864-1922) was born as the son of a blacksmith master in Altdamm near Stettin, Germany. From 1883 he became an oboeist in the grenadier regiment "King Charles" (5th Württemberg), No. 123 in Ulm, where he composed his first marches, of which Old Comrades might be the most famous.

After the end of his military period, he was first employed by the city police in Ulm, and from 1895 police officer in Potsdam. In 1909 Teike was no longer a police officer due to a serious illness and became an official (district police aid) in Landsberg an der Warthe. In addition to the marching Old Comrade, he composed more than 100 pieces of music, including the Marches "In Faithfulness (In Treue fest)", "Graf Zeppelin", and "Faithfulness for Faithfulness (Treue um Treue)".

His first honor for Old Comrades was 20 marks and "a goose". The assignment of the rights brought him 50 marks. The fees for the sale of his other works were similar, so that he could not prosper in spite of his musical work, and after his death in 1922 he was buried in a poor grave.
