    Santiago Lope (1871 - 1906) was a Spanish composer and conductor. At the age of 20 he became head of the "Teatro Romea" in Madrid. In 1905 he wrote the Paso Doble "Gallito" as commissioned by a renowned matador.

    Lope died in Burjassot (Valencia) on 25 September 1906 at the age of 35 years. In 1958 a foundation was founded with his name. This award scholarships to gifted musicians at the "Conservatorio Superior de Música" in Valencia.
