    Santiago Lope (1871 - 1906) was a Spanish composer and conductor. At the age of 20 he was already director of the "Teatro Romea" in Madrid. He wrote the Paso Doble "Gallito" in 1905 as commissioned by a famous matador. Lope died in Burjassot (Valencia) on September 25, 1906 at the age of 35 years. In 1958 a foundation was founded with his name. This grants scholarships to gifted musicians at the "Conservatorio Superior de Música" in Valencia.
